Storm uses just one skein of precious fingering weight yarn. It features dramatic dropped stitches and short rows that give this pattern a de-constructed look while also giving you a bigger shawl with the same yardage. With a silky blend this shawl has fabulous drape!

Time:  One 2-hour class

Level 3 Alpine: starting to climb, confident in knitting and purling and finished a few projects

Skills you need (these are essential for everyone to have the best class experience):

  • Cast on
  • Knit
  • Purl
  • Kfb (knit front and back – increase)
  • k2tog (knit 2 together – decrease)
  • yo – yarnover (increase)

Skills you will learn:

  • How to drop stitches
  • Wrap and turn short rows
  • Picot bind off

Materials:

  • 1 skein of fingering/sock weight yarn with at total of at least 420 yards
    • Our shop sample is in Sew Happy Jane’s Silky Cashmere, with a pop of color of a leftover skein for the picot bind off, 10 grams
  • Size 7 circular needle 32” or longer
    • If you have interchangeable circular needles, bring size 4 tips to use on the drop stitch row
  • Stitch markers to use on the wrap & turn rows
  • Tapestry needle
  • Removable stitch marker to mark right side
  • Blocking pins or wires
  • Storm Shawl pattern by Joji Locatelli
  • Optional: Our mini tool with reminders on short rows

Susan Johnson has been knitting since she was a teenager.  She is always looking for projects where a new skill or technique is learned.  In her day job she provides training for a software company.  Teaching knitting classes allows her to combine her training experience with her love of knitting.
