Learn to read charts! North Wind is a quick and simple one-skein hat that features a double-thick cuff. The easy-to-remember zig zag lace pattern can be extended for as much slouchiness as you like. The hat takes just one skein of worsted yarn, or you can use any of heavy sock yarns held double to get the same weight

Time: One 2-hour class

Level 3 Alpine: starting to climb, confident in knitting and purling and finished a few projects

Skills you need:

  • Cast on
  • Knit
  • Purl
  • Knit in the round
  • Yarn Over
  • Have followed a few patterns (they do not need to have included charts)

Skills you’ll learn:

  • How to read charts as well as tips and tricks for working with them
  • Tips on staying organized in your patterns
  • Knit two stitches together (k2tog)

Materials:

  • 200 yards worsted weight yarn
  • US 8 16” circular needles & US 8 double-pointed needles
  • North Wind Hat pattern by Felicia Lo
  • Stitch markers, one different for the beginning of the round
  • Recommended: highlighter tape

Preparation:

  • Cast on 84 sts. Place marker and join in the round, being careful not to twist work. Choose a brim option and complete the brim.

Carolina Kidwell-Bozeman loves playing with fiber in all forms. There is nothing more satisfying to her than spreading the therapeutic, creative and joyous qualities inherent in knitting. Carolina has been knitting since the age of 9 and picked it back up in college where she benefited from the meditative process of knitting instead of focusing only on finishing the project. In her own knitting, she embraces playing with color and texture when choosing a pattern.
