Color Techniques: Advantageous Shawl Class

This is an in-person class at Fuzzy Goat! Please review our class policies before enrolling. 

This is a fun sampler with a number of different stitch techniques, including slipped stitch, mosaic, short row, cable, bobbles, bubbles & more. No section is prohibitively long, (not too many rows) so a technique you might not love should be a short-lived experience, rather than a large commitment! This allows you to dip your toes into many things, some new, some old. In class, you will work on a practice piece for each section and then transfer those skills to your shawl. In this way, you won't feel rushed to be complete each section before the next class and you can work at your own pace.

Time:  One 1.5-hour class; enroll in these individually at $42 each. 11:30-1:00 pm

February 14th: Dripping Wax stitch
March 21: Lotus Flower + Cable stitches
March 28: Short Rows + Florentine Freeze stitches
April 18: Anemoe + Bobbles stitches

Level 2-3: starting to climb, able to knit and purl, done increases and decreases in knitting and finished a few projects with a pattern

Skills you need:

• Knit
• Purl
• done any kind of increase or decrease
• A sense of adventure!

Skills you will learn:

• A variety of new colorwork stitches!

Materials:

• Urth Yarns Advantageous Shawl Kit (this is a pre-order, please order at least 2 weeks prior to class), the kit includes MarinJa Knits pattern
  • Or six 220 yard skeins of fingering weight

• 6 different stash yarns, all in the same yarn weight, to practice the technique
• US 4 32" needle for the shawl kit, and appropriate size needle for your practice yarn.

Ladanya Ramirez Surmeier is the leader of fan favorite Building Blocks and Building in Color classes. She first learned to knit with a friend, but she only knew the two main stitches for many years. After taking the Building Blocks series herself she gained the confidence to take on more challenging projects. She loves knitting lace patterns because they are nice and airy. She is making sweaters now!

Return Policy

To protect you from odd dye lots, odors, or allergens, yarn may not be returned. We want to be sure that each skein you get has come direct from the dyer, to the shop to you. Full priced items other than yarn may be exchanged for shop credit if Fuzzy Goat receives the item within 2 weeks of when you received the item. Curated boxes are not eligible for returns  

To be eligible for an exchange, there must be proof of purchase, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging and in re-saleable condition when Fuzzy Goat receives it. Shop credit will be for the items purchased and not inclusive of shipping. We recommend insuring your package as we cannot credit returns for items that do not arrive.

If you are requesting to cancel an order, within two hours of your order and we have not wound your yarn and it has not yet reached our Fulfillment Maven, we will issue you shop credit for your whole order. (We incur quite a few non-refundable fees from our merchant services as soon as your order is placed)

Missed Coupon Policy

If you make a request, within the hour of your order, for us to retroactively apply coupon codes or gift card codes not entered at checkout we will need to deduct the merchant processing fees that we will be assessed. We will issue your difference in shop credit to be used in 60 days. Please be sure to fully enter your coupon code or gift card before completing checkout. Use all caps if coupon code is in all caps and Birthday coupons do include the word Birthday

Shipping Policy

We currently automatically ship within the United States, if you would like us to ship outside the US, contact us and we can make arrangements for you. Please allow between 5-10 days for your order to arrive. It may take us longer during big sale promotions. If more than 10 days have passed please email us at heyfuzzy@fuzzygoatyarns.com to review the status of your order. 

If you have ordered one of our subscription boxes or a pre-order item, please take note of the later dates those are expected to ship.

$20.00-$49.99 = $8.90
$50.00-$99.99 = $9.80
$100 and up = $13.90

We don’t have free shipping thresholds, though there are certain times of the year will do a promo for free shipping. As a small indie shop, we price shipping as close to actual cost as possible so we can continue supporting indie dyers, paying designers fairly, and offering personal help in-store and online. It’s one of the ways we keep Fuzzy Goat sustainable and able to serve our community long-term. We truly appreciate your support.

We make every effort to reuse boxes, bubble wrap, and other stuffing for shipping whenever possible. We do focus on our foot-print and where our lovely vendors are located. We are constantly on the hunt for more eco-friendly, cost-efficient options that also keep your precious yarn safe and dry.
