Be OUR best friend and make A Girl's Best Friend in the lovely Fuzzy Goat custom set from Manos del Uruguay.
We love this project, it embodies so many values of Fuzzy Goat: Isabell Kraemer writes such great patterns that inspire us and the designers really are a yarn shop's best friend. This pattern lets you mix up different colors and stitches and make it your own. Isabell also emphasizes the importance of knitting for healing, in her own health journey. As the amazing yarn dyers are also our best friends, like Manos del Uruguay which offered to local yarn shops the option of putting together our own mini skein kits! Manos's mission to provide thriving livelihoods to their communities is so important to where we want to spend our resources.
About the pattern (included with the kit):
a girl’s best friend is a triangular shawl worked flat from the top down. The textured body followed by contrast-colored pattern stripes, accented by small garter stitch stripes, and the sportive 3x1 rib at the edge make this a fun and entertaining knit… a versatile, but special companion for every day. Pompoms are added at the edge to make it even more special and personal. But tassels or even fringes may be a fantastic option too.
Use a US 4 36" needle
When you buy our kit, we'll include our modifications of how we made the shawl with these yarns. Size: 25" deep, 48" across
If you wanted to crochet you could try Lost Lake
About the yarn:
Fingering weight, 70% Merino, 30% Silk, single ply
A single skein of Fino, 490 yards
Five mini skeins in a custom Fuzzy Goat combo, 98 yards each
Elegant and refined, Fino combines the softness of merino wool with the luster of silk in a lightweight yarn that’s perfect for heirloom accessories or luxurious garments. Fino features a new dye process that yields complex, subtle, tonal colors.
Manos del Uruguay is a cooperative founded in 1968, begun by five women whose goal was to develop economic opportunities for women in a country where there were, & are still, few opportunities for work. The Manos Cooperatives provide health insurance, retirement pensions, paid vacations & paid maternity leave for their members. Moreover, members enjoy a sense of achievement and of self-determination – the first kindergartens in Uruguay were begun by the Manos Cooperative, to provide childcare for the artisans. In addition to creating yarns for handcrafters, the Manos Cooperatives have continued to produce ready-to-wear pieces for designers and department stores such as Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Nordstrom’s, & Sak’s.
