We're All In On Non-Superwash
Maybe you've noticed a new tab on our site just for Non-Superwash Wool đź’•
After hearing from many of you in the shop, we decided to expand our knowledge and selection of fiber that hasn't been treated with the superwash process (though of course we think all types of yarn have their place).
Not only is Non-Superwash generally considered more environmentally friendly, Melissa says it also allows the natural fibers to breathe even better, making it cooler to wear.
But first of all, what is Superwash? It's the chemical process that removes a fiber's scales & makes the wool more washable & less likely to felt. It's basically what makes your yarn shrink-proof. It also often allows the fibers to "smooth out" (which is why some people consider it softer than Non-Superwash). It also changes the way the fiber soaks up dye, usually resulting in more vibrant colors.
The perks of going Non-Superwash: not only are you cutting down on this chemical process, lightening the burden that puts on the environment, you also end up with wool that maintains it's inherent wooly-ness. That means better stitch definition + your knits are less likely to lose their shape over time.
We went out searching for a variety of Non-Superwash that met our standards of softness and vibrant color, plus we wanted to offer you a variety of weights too!
Here's a quick rundown of our 6 Non-Superwash superstars:
1: Manos del Uruguay Fino - Lace Weight/Light Fingering
